About the service

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive ground gas that can cause lung cancer. Indoor exposure to radon ground gases is the second leading cause of cancer in the UK, after smoking causing 1,100 deaths per year in the UK, according to UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) figures.

Who needs to measure radon?

If your home or workplace is in an area with a maximum radon potential of more than 1%, it should be the subject of Radon Measurement.

Forza FMs team are competent radon assessors with over ten years’ experience of radon assessment, measurement, profiling and mitigation. Our client aims and objectives are clear and straightforward, as briefed below:

STEP 1 : CHECK

A Radon Risk Report will tell you if your home is in a radon affected area. If it is above 1% maximum radon potential, UKHSA recommends measuring the radon concentration.

STEP 2 : Measure

Radon measurement is undertaken for at least three months or as a minimum for ten days for short term exposure limits (STEL). Forza FM recommends longer testing periods to best capture normal building occupancy, residual radon levels and air movement. Once the measurement process is complete, we will always use a UKHSA validated laboratory to carry out all sample analysis.

STEP 3 : ACT

Our team will interpret analytical results and send our client and report with recommendations to ensure full client compliance with Ionising Radiation Regulations 2017 (IRR17). In simple terms, in domestic premises if results are above the UK Action Level of 200 Becquerels (Bq m3) or 300 Bq m3 for workplaces, action is needed. The client is compelled to reduce indoor radon levels below the target level of 100 Bq m3 to comply with IRR17, and Forza FM are with the client every step of the way to make it happen.
